To say I was disappointed with this movie would be an understatement. They say that looks can be deceiving, and the previews for this picture were certainly that. I think it was just one of the most ridiculous films I have seen in a long time. Not only that, but the storyline itself was somewhat outlandish and a bit out there. Come on now, fighting off crazy Mayans, and vegetation that takes over the lives of five college preppies, and is hungry for human flesh? What next? Also, another thing I didn't like about this movie was how some things weren't clearly explained, and left you hanging, thinking "Huh". In fact I'm still trying to understand what the connection between the plants and the ruins were. What did it all mean? Aside from that I found the acting was mediocre, could of been a little better. The gory scenes however, were few, but they made me flinch, and once I had to look away. This movie was hardly what I'd call scary. There were a few tense moments, but nothing to really make you jump out of your seat. Though not all was a loss. The only thing that I thought which made this film stand out, and gave it the edge it needed, was the incredible scenery... the landscape which was breathtaking. Overall," The Ruins", is one movie that I wouldn't rush out to see, although I wonder if the book is any better. Perhaps I'll read it sometime for curiosity's sake. Enough said.
