What was that? I had no interest in the story, and was constantly wondering if I should stop the movie, or if finally something good was coming. The story was basic and uninteresting, the action scenes were also basic and uninteresting.

Was expecting more from this show but overall it was okay. It came to a point that I was not paying much attention to it but somehow still could follow it. This movie can literally make you multi task if you see it at home that is.

Nothing special. It loses points for having a lame ending. Hard to care about anyone in this movie, they call come off as useless. Hayek and Del Toro are over the top and come off as cartoon characters.

I don't think it's a great movie. Strangely enough, I believe I will watch it again some time. Go figure, just something about it but I cannot put my finger on it.

A sloppy, preposterous film with beautiful people playing drug operators up against verismo Mexican bad guys. Selma Hayak was funny. I don't think she can act anymore. Benicio del Toro was a very exaggerated bad guy: a strictly movie caricature made up of crazy, slimy and not too bright Mexican thugs. John Travolta wasn't bad, sometimes. High minded California cool vs. Mexicali narcotic peddlers and murderers: doesn't work.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Now for a review that does not blow Oliver Stone. This movie has little relevance to reality - I mean, of course 3 late 20's kids live in a Laguna beach mansion, grow huge crops of the best weed and perhaps one's an ex-navy seal/mercenary with a personal tactical team at his dispense... That I can believe... But this cartel that at one moment knows all the moves, and in the next they are bumbling idiots that are after just a couple hundred lbs. of weed is one main diffuser of the "action." Travolta plays a house cat, Del Toro tried (best character) and the rest of the cast was eye candy at best... I could write a book about how bad this movie really was and the main plot twist at the end would be revealing that the title of the movie "Savages" has no connection to the movie itself, but is what the audience feels like when they have left the movie feeling raped of time and money. Speaking of rape... Why include a brief scene where "O" is raped without further explanation or retribution. EPIC FAIL!

Good movie until the the last few minutes... very stupid double ending... Mr. Stone should be ashamed of himself for wimping out on the 2 endings, on this one.

Well, I finally saw the film from Oliver Stone, and as usual, it involved the familiar theme of drugs and the dirty characters that revolve around them. The next thing you'd know, blown-up vehicles and murder and lies followed. The story is dirty as you can see, and how to handle certain things when pressured. John Travolta gives a unique character this time around. He has really changed over the course of the past 10 years. If dirty stories are your thing, then watch it. Though it does contain a few very violent parts.

It's a good movie, but kind of gory. I thoroughly enjoyed it though. It has a lot of suspense, and the bonus - it has Salma Hayek playing "La Madrina". I love Salma Hayek.

It was really entertaining, but more importantly, a fresh breath of air with everything else out there.

This movie wasn't as good as I thought, it was really unrealistic in some parts. It reminded me of a wannabe version of "Blow". It was overall entertaining and worth seeing, but I was a little disappointed.

Oliver Stone is one of my favourite directors. You never know what kind of movie he's going to make. This one lacked the intensity of NATURAL BORN KILLERS and failed to catch up to Quarantino's KILL BILL and the like. But it's something of a mediocre in-between of the aforementioned. The beginning of the film is a bit benign. It tries to be fresh, but has only a dirty marsh to work with. The characters are extremely unrealistic and they bore me. Yet you manage to hold on for some reason. There is this mysterious aura of curiosity in the air. This is what saves the film at this point. The gore is there, but it is poignant. There is no overbearing character. So we become interested --- and hope for the best. What saves this film is some very good acting by Travolta and great acting by Del Toro to make up for the miscast Selma Hayek (come on... really now?) Del Toro continues to be such a cool presence in all he touches. The man can do the most disgusting things and still have the utmost respect of the ones who criticize such deeds. Now that's not necessarily good acting, it is also ultra-cool. How much does he get for each movie he's in? This is not a very good movie, but I do recommend it. As they used to say, a hesitant thumbs up, if only because the weak bookends are supported by a strong body.

Great movie! Really gory in some parts but I think the story line was well written and for goodness sakes for all you men out there you have Blake to stare at for an hour and a half... lol so to sum it up, this movie has action, blood, and a love story so yes worth seeing for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Though violent, it has an interesting plot and the characters were well depicted. The movie passed by in no time. This is the kind of movie where you go without expectations (or low ones) and you come out entertained.

It's as good as a drug dealing crime movie can get. Young characters, new perspective even if drug dealing movies have the same predictable storyline. Shows a lot of truth with what goes on with cartels and on the flip side the "innocent" guys just trying to make a decent living. I'm buying the dvd when it come out.

Good story... as tight as any script gets these days... good acting too with Salma Hayek delivering a standout performance. As far as drug/underworld movies go, we've seen this movie many times before in many different forms and we all know how it ends up once we're 15 minutes into it... predictable is my point... but still a decent movie.

Such a bad movie with a overdone story line that every other movie has already done with a random pointless strange love story.

This is a fairly fun movie, but it would have seemed much more daring and exciting 20 years ago. Oliver Stone plays some tricks on us, but they seem tired and unsurprising. Also, I found it very hard to feel much interest in, or sympathy for, any of the characters... even the ones that seem to be the protagonists. Worth seeing once if there's nothing else you want to see, but not something I'd want to see twice.

I have no idea what people are talking about, the movie has a different spin. The acting on all parties envolved were totally believable. So glad I didn't read reviews before seeing movie, one of the best this year!

This is the first time I am writing a review. However, after seeing this movie... I thought I must! The movie is terrible, the lines are bad, the acting is worse and the storyline is stupid. I am so disappointed. It could have been so much better than it was. Don't go see it... be warned.

One of the better movies to come out in a while. Don't know why some people rate it so low - maybe outside the box is too difficult for them to appreciate.

I didn't know what to expect. Was it going to be like Trainspotting, like Swat, like Trafic? Most of the movie is slow paced; you see the tripoli taking it smoothly, growing juana, flirting, and doing threesomes. The other half is what made me like the movie. In this other half you meet the mexican cartel with Penelope Cruz and Del Toro. That part saved the movie. I did like the whole cartel plotting thing. I can't say the action was good because there is almost no action; do't expect fights. I can't say I recommend it, but as I said, the 2nd half of the movie delighted me.

Terrible storyline, I don't know why Travolta lowered himself acting in such a bad movie. Drugs, violence and money, this is what this movie was mostly about. Throw in a few unacceptable sex scenes.

I don't understand why this movie got such bad reviews. It had a good plot, it was different and interesting. I was surprised that it was weed rather than cocaine based off the commercials. The casting was done very well, Benicio Del Toro is a great actor and did a good job. Taylor Kitsch was a little sloppy, and I could have done without Blake Lively, her narration during the beginning was not good at all and she was kinda just "meh" for the the part. But overall it was a very entertaining movie and I liked it a lot.

Yeah... really can't describe this move... John Travolta was probably the only real highlight... he used to pick really cool roles... the drug dealer, hitman, ect now he just plays wimpy weird science teacher types. Salma's still hot, but getting up there... the plot was like a really third rate version of a pulp fiction remake part 14, seriously take a pass, save your money, wouldn't even buy it for a buck, seriously stupid film.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is great escapist fare. Quite violent, which doesn't bother me. Visually great, with a good looking cast. I have no qualms at all with the acting. I would guess that some people think that if the actors are too attractive, then the acting can't be top notch. I'm not a fan of John Travolta, but didn't find him too annoying in this film.

Realistically I would give this movie a 7.4/10 [...] The bad reviews on here almost made me give this movie a miss, whereas they are usually very reliable. I went because I love Benicio and Selma and Travolta. I'm so glad I did! None of them disappointed and it's probably Selma's best performance to date. Benicio is a MASTER of his craft. The soundtract, pacing, cinematography and sets add an amazing intensity. My heart is still racing. The villains are convincingly sadistic and truly they steal the show, but they are all masters of their craft. I agree with most on here that novice actors were the weak point of the movie but it is still worth the ticket price. I hope you go see it despite the harsh reviews.

The plot was different but unrealistic in most cases. As usual, the lack of characterization and a real plot was replaced by gratuitous violence. Part way through I was bored with the same old same old. Even the writers and director had a problem with what to do with it because they provide two endings, neither of which is particularly entertaining. Thankfully, it was a $4 night and even then I felt I should have spent it elsewhere.
