This is easily one of the best drama movies I've seen in years. I am disturbed by the fact that movies like this are not produced more often. The movie shows one aspect of parenting. It may be an eye opener for many. Adrien Brody produced the movie himself, it probably means that no one in Hollywood was interested to finance the movie, and the movie itself explains why. I reluctantly rented it yesterday on AppleTV, never heard of the movie before, but from now on I will start watching independent unknown movies more often. They takes us light years away from the Hollywood crap that gets produced nowadays by the ton. Don't get me wrong here, I liked the latest Batman trilogy very much too.

This was an atypical high school movie with much more to say than the usual feel-good BS (no Michele Pfeiffer here) It is very dark but also very real. It was very powerful, injecting subject matter in an indirect way, repeatedly and forcefully. I was rather impressed even if the ending was artistic in a film school way. If you have ever worked in the public school system, you will probably appreciate how authentic some of the scenarios are. I would love to give the movie a higher rating but alas, there is no hope for redemption offered here. It's a classic tragedy with a LOT of thought provoking, something that is often attempted but rarely achieved in film. Nicely done! Having said all that, you should not rush out to see it if you're looking for a nice, light, entertaining flick.

Detachment is a dark film that deals with frustrations and emotional stress some teachers and school faculties goes through. The powerful ending, set up really well across the entire movie left you with some provoking thoughts to take away.
